Legal
Liquor Laws
British Columbia does not allow the consumption of alcohol within vehicles. This applies to personal and commercial vehicles. If you want to bring a cooler into a wine-touring vehicle, it should be water. In addition, the use of seat belts is mandatory in vehicles driven on British Columbia roads.
BC Vehicle Insurance
ICBC has switched to driver-based insurance which means vehicle owners declare all drivers who will drive their vehicle more than 12 times per year. Other drivers, such as a wine-tour driver, are categorized as “unlisted drivers”. Unlisted driver insurance is free through ICBC but needs to be declared on the insurance policy. Please ensure you have “unlisted driver” coverage prior to booking Driven Wine Tours. All you need to do is request the coverage from your local agent.
In the unlikely event of an accident, the vehicle owner’s insurance covers the claim (provided the owner has unlisted driver coverage) and the driver’s insurance premium is affected, not the owner’s insurance premium. However, the unlisted driver coverage will cost $50 upon renewal for the vehicle owner after there is an initial claim. Driven Wine Tours will cover the insurance deductible of any accident that occurs during one of our tours.
In addition, Driven Wine Tours does not offer its services to owners whose third party liability insurance is less than $2 million.
